Rock 'n' Roll

I'm currently reading Keith Richards book "life." Such an interesting read and really reinforces what a fucking incredible band the Rolling Stones were and still are.

Dissertation consolation

I am sadly going through the most dreaded part of any degree, the dissertation, but today I discovered that I can do my methodology as a film analysis, which makes the task a little easier to handle. The films I have chosen are these bad boys.

This film was the first feature length film about punk. Wonderfully directed by Derek Jarman, this film is the inspiration for films like 'This is England' and is a great representation of 'the last subculture'

This films speaks volumes. It is the beautifully tragic story of Sid Vicious and his girlfriend Nancy. The Yoko Ono of the Sex Pistols this film is both funny and accurate. Something everyone should watch, especially if you too were disgusted by Johnny Rotten's butter advertisements. He was better than that once.

Finally, NEDS is currently in cinemas and I am yet to watch, but is said to be a true and brutal story of a boy who is forced in to gang culture, telling the story of some of the first juvenile delinquents of the 1970's.

Versace spring/summer 2011

Is beyond.I've always been a massive fan of bleached to fuck hair teamed with dark holes as eyes but Abbey Lee takes it to knew heights with that flawless face of hers.

I love the two bigs themes of spring summer being combined here, the bondage leather style that is carrying on from Autumn/winter and the up coming trend of revitalised 1970's patterns. It's nice to see an eye catching advertising campaign.

Blue Valentine

This film looks amazing, in my opinion there's been some disappointing films so far this year that promised big things in their trailers but failed to deliver (Love and other drugs and black swan for instance!) but I think this could be a winner.

Ryan Gosling (The notebook) and Michelle Williams (Heath ledgers baby mumma, not that girl from destiny's child) play a head over heals, madly in love couple in the beginning of their relationship, which was filmed in one take in order to create the passion that the honey moon period provides and the second part was filmed after Ryan and Michelle has lived together for a few weeks, to create the intensity and realisation that life has not turned out like the dream you had planned.

This film looks beautiful, show cases true talent and has a soundtrack by Grizzly Bear, I can't wait to find a cinema that's actually screening it!

Too feur, agent provocateur?

Mark Ronson's french girlfriend Josephine De La Baume is the victim of stalking as she walks around her house, reading magazines and exercising in what can only be described as the most uncomfortable looking work-out outfit since Mr Motivaters get up.

I appreciate the female form as much the next gal, but this is a long and uncomfortable 6 minutes of watching, where I think even the perverted camera man becomes bored.

I know Agent Provocateur are trying to step up their racey advertising game but I fear this could be one step too far. On the other hand, Mark Ronson's doing alright for himself!
